Chemmy and the women who joined us on the first WWS trip

Q+A with Chemmy Alcott

We caught up with Chemmy Alcott about what it is to be a woman who ski's and how it went as a co-host and ambassador of our first ever WWS (Women Who Ski) trip.

How long a break from skiing have you had since having two lovely babies?

I had both my babies in January which meant it was a busy time, therefore I probably only had up to 3 weeks off before I was back on the snow. I was really lucky as I had easy labours and my body responded pretty quickly which meant I was back at work. I did a lot of Pilates and core work which I really think helped with post-partum…. But yes, it was quite mad!

As a woman who skis, really quite well, and a woman who is leading the charge in mums going back to work etc…what’s your positive message to all the women and mums thinking about a Women Who Ski trip?

I am really trying to champion women to do what is best for them, so for some women that is going back to work, some it is staying at home and taking the time for their mind and body to heal. I think so many women sacrifice who they are after children and put their passions aside. I want to initiate that they can have this still and follow their drives and desires not matter what and ultimately it makes them an even better parent.

Maybe for those that have missed out, or those that thought about it and didn’t book, what pearly words of wisdom would you give them for next year?

I was so excited to be part of this trip and bringing women together on different levels, altogether in one place either over a glass of wine, yoga or on the chair lift. This is an amazing experience for anyone who is into their snow sports. To be in an incredible resort and chalet and all having a unique experience is a truly special thing.

What were you most looking forward to about the Women Who Ski trip?

It’s definitely one of the trips I probably most looked forward to because as I’ve said before I champion women who are looking to develop their skiing or boarding and enjoy the process experience of being better than the day before. It’s really about the whole package and ticking all the boxes. Like anyone else, I love letting my hair down and dancing on tables and then combining this with the snow sports especially in St Anton which is one of the Meccas of skiing in the world.

Why do you hope that Kaluma and Chemmy continue this partnership – what’s the next ideas for Women Who Ski?

I think with Kaluma and myself it’s all about this empowering movement of women that we are in right now. Having inspirational role models for women who are going out there and risking themselves to strive and be better. With Kaluma we can collaborate and help women be the best versions of themselves.

You’ve skied all over the world in some amazing places – why have you always loved St Anton?

I love St Anton for so many reasons, there is of course the  après ski and party atmosphere but it is rare that you get this combined with epic pistes and back bowls, there’s a James Bond esque lift and great food. You can really let your hair down without being judged which is so important especially with a trip like WWS.

Chemmy with one of the guests from women who ski

If there is one regret, you have throughout your ski career what is it and what would you do differently? What advice would the Chemmy Alcott mum of two, Women Who Ski ambassador give to the 18 year old Chemmy Alcott budding Olympian and World Cup Ski Racer?

I don’t really do regrets but my advice to my younger self would be, to live in the present! When I was younger it was all about looking to the future and goal settings, as opposed to living the moment that day whether it was in injury or victory. I am in the very fortunate position of living my life through sports and making a living from that.

What should all the ladies on Women Who Ski trip be looking forward to and what can they expect?

Based on this year the women are in for a treat! It’s a fun, safe environment that is non-judgemental . They can push themselves a bit more and maybe try that black run they’ve not tried before, we created a great environment for everyone to explore the ceiling of their capabilities. I personally like to pack as much into my days as I can, so the schedule was pretty busy however the girls were able to pick and choose and there was obviously the gorgeous spa to indulge in after a busy day.

Thank you to Chemmy for joining us on our first ever Women Who Ski trip it was incredible to have her . If you would like to find out more on the Women Who Ski trip and the dates for next season click here.
