The central Monte Rosa hotel is one of the most historic and symbolic buildings in Zermatt. Steeped in history of legends it's also in a cracking location, right in the heart of Zermatt.…for authentic mountain history. Edward Whymper's stayed here before his first ascent of the Matterhorn 1860.
The Hotel
Steeped in tradition, the Hotel Monte Rosa was the first hotel in the Matterhorn village. With spectacular views and excellent service, it has been welcoming guests through it’s doors since 1839.
Its guests include Edward Whymper, the first conqueror of the Matterhorn, and numerous other mountaineers.
Thankfully, the hotel has been upgraded to meet the demanding standards currently expected of an international hotel, yet without losing the homely atmosphere and charm of a traditional turn-of-the-century alpine hotel.
This is reflected in the interiors throughout, with each room being individually designed and much of the history being maintained in the hotel bar and restaurants.
The central location of the hotel means that you’ll have everything you need from a holiday in Zermatt on your doorstep. Zermatt is a lovely town to wander around, soak up the atmosphere down it’s old cobbled streets, walk along the river or take the Gornergrat train to the top of the glacier.
Guests who stay at the Monte Rosa benefit from being able to use the 1500 sq.m spa and wellness centre at the 5-star Mont Cervin Palace opposite.
